The Danish Architect and Designer Arne Jacobsen needs no introduction as one of the most well known names in the Scandinavian Design Tradition. Among his most famous chair designs, are the Ant, Series 7, The Egg, and The Swan.
However, after more than 50 years after it was first produced (exclusively for Jacobsen's project the SAS Royal Hotel - now the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel in Copenhagen), the Drop chair is being re-introduced, by The Republic of Fritz Hansen.
Fritz Hansen have had a long relationship with Arne Jacobsen's designs - they have been producing his work since 1934. The Drop chair was never one of those that went into standard production after being introduced to the hotel, instead it was the now classic Egg and Swan chairs which rose to notoriety.
The Drop chair is a small chair that packs a big impact with it's ergonomic shape that appears to hug the contours of the body. Again, it is an example of design with implicit simplicity that speaks the strongest.
It's only appropriate that the Drop chair is being re-introduced reflecting modern production methods and the contemporary needs of it's market. So a new range of colours with a moulded plastic seat, or an upholstered fabric or leather versions are available. (We are loving the soft pink and leather option below).
