We have an addiction to chairs - particularly occasional chairs, those pieces of furniture that demand attention, and reward you for being a feature in a room, adding a different layer of interest and that show a certain creativity within a space.
This year to mark the 100th year since the birth of a leading Danish Furniture designer - Hans J Wegner, a very special limited edition of his pieces were released by his manufacturer, Carl Hansen.
It is easy to recognise the signature vibrancy of colours and styling of Paul Smith who designed the fabric (Big Stripe and Stripe) exclusively with Maharam for this project.
Paul personally chose the specific pieces of Hans J Wegner furniture for this, including some of the designer's most iconic chairs - such as the Wishbone chair above, and the Shell chair that introduced this post. Not forgetting the Wing Chair below - now that is what we call a Statement piece!
The collection was launched at the World's largest Furniture Fair - Salone Del Mobile in Milan and is available via Carl Hansen stockists worldwide. For the full range click here.
Paul Smith certainly has been a busy chap this year - we have also covered his collaboration with the classic British Light Anglepoise (click on the link to see) and he has been honoured by an exhibition in London's Design Museum.
In a world of convenience, disposable furniture and replica copies, it is fantastic to highlight and respect the real thing, as it is only by supporting creativity and authenticity that we will continue to foster the designers of the future.
