Now, wouldn't it be lovely to wake up with a view like this each day?
Writing this in the depth's of our Australian winter admittedly is not helping and I am finding myself drawn to stunning imagery in sunny climates and giving in to daydreaming about being there.....
Well, this is the Croatian retreat for Interior Designer Lucien Rees Roberts and architect Steven Harris. It obviously features quite lovely interiors, but today we are concentrating on the breathtaking scenery outside.
Villa San Spirito, is on a small island, about one hour's ferry ride from Dubrovnik and the current owners have sympathetically renovated the buildings and brought the gardens back to life by a consistent and climate-relevant planting scheme alongside considered landscaping.
The idea was to ensure that the garden and outdoor areas complimented and not competed with the stunning views, and they were planned as an integral partner to the interiors. You can see how this manifests by the viewpoint you get from standing here in the kitchen. In fact in many of the rooms, there are doors inviting you outside where there are terraces and pathways to further get the most out of the experience of just being here.
The barn was converted into this Art Studio - with large glass sliding doors, which enable the owners to push back, and just experience the stunning outside whilst working.
There are several terraces to choose from, depending on what
Even though today we are focusing on the outside space of this home, of course we couldn't resist a peep at the inside too! (The rest of the house is just as impressive and we will come back to this another day!)
Not all of us have a holiday retreat to escape to, but if you do - however large or small, we would love to hear how you have made it your own!
