Native Line Woven Wall Hangings are the stunning creations of artist Justine Ashbee. As soon as we stumbled upon her work, we were blown away and couldn't wait to share with you.
Hand weaving has been seeing a bit of a resurgence recently - (fellow Instagram-addicts will have found it hard not to notice) but Justine's work stands out for it's delicate design and shimmering metallic threads.
Justine's early work was focused on line drawings - intricate mesmerising, swirling patterns that you can lose yourself in, but her fascination with the desert landscape was the inspiration behind her foray into weaving; 'light inspired visions unravelled in new woven forms'.
Justine's website Native Line is a wonderful insight into her world. Depictions of totemic and tribal life with images of isolated landscapes and indigenous craft and adornments all add up to build a picture of the layered influences behind her Art. 'Work in patterns that speak of the primal nature of life - what is native to the spirit in all of life'.
These influences are clearly seen in her weaving - with pattern, fringing, tassels and geometric designs all coming together to create stunning woven art for walls.
We LOVE the shimmering luminosity of thread used and the simultaneously delicate and yet dominant designs.
In addition to wall hangings, Justine's weaving extends to jewellery (see below) and light sculptures. Custom-made commissions are a possibility with clients able to discuss with her potential colour and size options.
