The Terminus Hotel is almost reason enough to move to Abbotsford, Melbourne! We love a great local pub and when we saw this revamped beauty we had to explore more....
The Terminus was targeted for demolition when the team at Sandhill Road stepped in. Having been locals themselves they did not want to stand by and see the demise of the old pub and brought in the Techne team to work their magic.
The brief was to preserve the heritage listed facade and the original character of the pub, alongside a bang-up-to-date multi-purpose indoor and outdoor bar garden space.
With five bars across three levels with an extensive bar garden under glass for all year round use, the results are really impressive.
The design has balanced that need for both intimate and open spaces (loving the timber spined and roped booths) with plenty of opportunity for escaping from our everyday urban lives into a lush and vibrant 'urban jungle' that offers plenty to look at (when we tire of people-watching!)
What is especially pleasing is the inclusion of the art-deco aesthetic (a nod to the original pub) and the way in which these have married with the contemporary update.
The heritage facade gives little away as to what to expect when you step over the threshold - and we love that element of surprise - isn't that why we love our local pubs - they give us an welcome diversion from the ordinary?
