Every town deserves one of these! This is Mama Campo in Madrid - a concept store that is both grocery store, restaurant and has a dedicated children's area! Anyone who has ever done the shopping or decided to stop for something to eat, with young children will I'm sure be able to recall at least one occasion where the challenges of achieving this with sanity intact have been severely challenged!
Mama Campo is in the Plaza de Olavide, a favourite spot with local families (and tourists alike) and offers a winning combination of organic produce, much of it sourced locally, with quite stunning 'organic' inspired interiors and accessories.
The visionary behind this, is the photographer Manolo Yllera who has combined the talents of some reputable and lesser known creatives to produce an eclectic and yet harmonious space.
The wall, floor and ceiling surfaces have a very diverse and textural quality to them, utilising largely natural materials in keeping with the organic ethos of Mama Campo, such as timber, jute, traditional plaster techniques, natural paint pigments and even reeds.
Everywhere you look there is something to hold your attention with beautifully crafted custom-made items contributing to a consistent aesthetic within the space. Local and more international creatives contributed to the interiors - for example the gorgeous plate/wall light below is by Carlos Villoslada.
Finally, as in all great hospitality spaces, the design of bathroom should not be forgotten or underestimated. Even better when they are as memorable as this!
If you are lucky enough to travel to Madrid - we hope a visit to Mama Campo makes it on to your 'Must-do' list! Keep us posted!
