Christmas gives us all an excuse to go the extra mile and decorate just about every surface possible in an attempt to imbue our homes with a festive and welcoming atmosphere. The Dining Table is no different, and if you like to add a bit more than the average Christmas cracker, then read on.
It's hard to go past the traditional theme of incorporating red at this time of year, and it is relatively easy to incorporate in a contemporary setting. See the use of tartan and berries above, which when mixed with greenery and sheepskin give a modern edge to a traditional theme.
The floral bunches below reference the traditional poinsettia and add drama to an otherwise classic palette. For something equally effective but less 'intrusive' on the table, why not simply add a cinnamon stick and kangaroo paw as a festive napkin ring?
A delightful way of adding a bit of magic on the table is through fairy lights - and when used with the varying sized paper baubles above in a limited tonal range, the table looks stunning. (There are many battery operated lights available to make life even easier).
Alternatively, the oversized lights below, in an all-white theme freshened up with small green accents, would really create a very flattering ambient light affect.
We particularly like it when the Table decorations are as evocative as they are decorative - for example scattering some whole cloves and walnuts, with the eucalyptus sprigs and the very Aussie Magpie feather firmly places this table within it's Antipodean place!
Don't forget the option of using the space above your table to be the focal point for your Christmas dining - and it is really easy to use a fallen branch, hung up with clear fishing wire as your tool to customise as you wish.
Finally, memories of hot steaming rich gravy being poured over our Christmas Turkey is a truly nostalgic trigger and so we love the use of the traditional gravy-boat being used as a decorative vessel here, laden with moss, hyacinths and candles. It is a great illustration of how something quite ordinary can be re-invented to great effect if you are inspired to give it a go! If you need more ideas, please check out our pinterest board here!
We would love to see your Christmas Tables all decked out - don't forget to take a photo and share with us!
