Unless you have been living under a rock, there's no escaping global sport in one form or another at the moment, from The World Cup, Grand Slam Tennis at Wimbledon and this weekend the start of Le Tour De France. It is this latter event that got us inspired for today's Lifestyle post.
For the benefit of all of us who don't don the lyrca, but who do still like to hop on the bike every now and again, we thought we'd explore cycle chic and along the way, we stumbled upon a whole world of super cool bikes and accessories!
The earliest bikes were of course made of wood, but until recently, we had no idea that in this era wooden bikes existed! Apparently wood is a very practical choice for bikes with many redeeming features; for example it is a natural shock absorber and very durable. The wooden bike below is one of the most beautiful examples we found.
One of the brands at the forefront of the cycle chic and bike cool world, is the Dutch designed LEKKER, the number one brand here in Australia (and soon to hit the U.S market). The company aims to reflect it's Dutch heritage with the chicest trends in today's 'urban riding culture' to ensure that you get a bike that that matches both quality and your personality. The word “lekker” in Dutch means tasty, pleasurable or nice. Originally used to refer to food, the term now describes anything that is beautiful, cool, tasty or sexy.
You know the saying about how dog owners tend to resemble their dogs? Well, in the cycle chic world, finding a bike that suits your personality, and then co-ordinating your outfit with your bike, is not to be underestimated! Take a look at the cycle chic examples below! Admittedly it is much harder to pull off these looks with the legally required helmet here in Australia! Of course, if you find a bike that reflects your personality and that you use regularly, it has to be stored somewhere safe and easy to access. How to successfully incorporate your bike with your interior can be a challenge and so we were relieved to find these innovative solutions below which are more art installation than somewhere to just park your bike!
Now that you have your cycle chic going on, you need to be able to make the most out of your transport with cool bike accessories. Nothing like arriving to a party in style and how easy to bring a bottle(s) with the cool leather accessories below.
We are not all cut out to be the racing-bike-lycra-clad types, but at the very least, most of us have happy memories of being out on two wheels and we hope that this brings out the cycle chic in you!
