The Giulia Hotel (part of the Room Mate portfolio) is a boutique hotel in the centre of Milan, close to the famous Piazza del Duomo. References to the location are everywhere with the choice of materials and finishes reflecting the industrial, creative and cultural history of Milan. For example, geometric and grid patterns are a common theme - reflecting both the manufacturing and graphic arts heritage of the city.
The Lobby features pink marble flooring - the same as in the Duomo (Cathedral) of Milan and a wall of curved bricks - another reference to an architectural feature used frequently in this area.
The predominance of this gorgeous 'blush' colour pops up in different applications throughout the hotel - seen below in the bathroom.
We also love the repetition of the leather straps used to both anchor cushions, headboards, and mirrors. We always say that hotels provide rich pickings for inspiration!
For example - if you needed any persuading that wallpaper can be hung on the ceiling - this should help!
The hotel has 85 rooms, decorated with pink, green and blue tones, mindful of typical Italian domestic spaces with a vintage, slightly nostalgic feel. The aim was to create a sense of the familiar, with locally based artists' works displayed adding to the unmistakably Milan vibe. The goal is "to make you feel like you're staying with a friend" - albeit a very well-connected friend! So next time you are in Milan......
