We spotted this South African beach-side home in a previous issue of Inside Out magazine sometime ago, and immediately fell in love with it's contemporary beachy, laid-back vibe.
It's raining here and maybe that's why we decided to feature this beach-side beauty today! We are SO in denial that Winter is coming....
The style of house with it's weatherboard cladding and the colour bond roof is a very Australian vernacular, but this home is half a world away in Grotto Bay, South Africa.
The owners, together with Logo Homes designed the property to be orientated to take advantage of the amazing quality of light and the coastal vistas. Wide veranda's blur the boundaries of the outside/inside space and direct your view to the stunning landscape beyond.
The design also focused on enabling relaxed family living - with double height living areas in the centre of the home, and access to the outside from every opportunity.
The interior decoration is a homage to white! Add in accents of natural timber, woven materials and the odd bit of black, and it's just enough to bring the interiors to life without detracting from that all important view.
Even if we are not all blessed with such amazing natural light and landscape from every window, the liberal use of white surfaces warmed up with key accents (timber, natural stone, et al') has a supremely calming influence and allows what natural light you do have to bounce around your space. It is no accident that in cooler climates (e.g. Scandinavian Countries) where natural light is affected at certain times of year, the interiors are predominately white-based.
Simple but Significant' is the Detail Collective team ethos - and this house perfectly embodies that with it's pared back interiors and restricted natural colour palette providing an escape for the owners from day to day stresses whilst revelling in it's unique sense of place.
