The Number 6, is a stunning example of how a sensitive and imaginative restoration of an important heritage building, can incorporate respect for both the past and the design imperatives of today.
This restoration was handled by the super talented Italian Design Firm ' Building' and we can't think how this could have been handled any better.
One of the main aims of the reconstruction was to maximise the use of exterior spaces, both the private terraces and the shared courtyard, with art, sculpture, planting and the quite stunning use of led lighting systems.
In keeping with respecting the cultural and historical references, the decision was made to revitalise the original 17th Century Giardino (garden) in a distinctively high tech and equally environmentally friendly way through automated lighting and watering devices.
The interior spaces are a revelation with the juxtaposition of the original materials exposed in parts (timber rafters etc) with contemporary materials such as steel staircases, and lots of reflective surfaces.
How does this renovation inspire you? Could we simply incorporate some led lights on our own courtyards or gardens to recreate a bit of this magic at home? Please keep us posted on whether you are equally inspired and what you think about this latest Italian Masterpiece!
