Next time we are in Sydney, this newly refurbished bar, Old Joe's (part of Northies Hotel) on Cronulla Beach, is going to be on our list for stopping by.
Redesigned by Sibella Court to reflect the nostalgic era of 1970's beach life and inspired by an old Milk Bar that closed over 20 years ago, (which was run by 'Jo',) and covered with advertising which Sibella was keen to reference here.
The influence of the Milk Bar was a strong design factor - as you can see finishes reminiscent of milk bars, such as terrazzo bar tops, soft sorbet colours, striped awnings & hand painted signage.
Sibella has said that much of her inspiration can be seen in the details; " the recycled timber floor pays homage to coastal boardwalks, lighting made from vintage beach chair strapping, hand painted ping pong table, custom table tops & fabrics with colour blocking and colour palates that reference faded surfboards & board short colours."
We love the combination of timber and turquoise (those tiles) - and would love to work that flavour into some of our interior projects one day!
So move over iced coffee - we'll be having the Milo milkshake with a kick (vodka, chocolate liqueur, caramel and banana!).
We'd love to hear your thoughts on the colour palette and textures used here - especially if you have been brave enough to introduce such zingy tones at home.
Until next time!
